What did Carr evaluate Christie's art and her books or What did Christie evaluate Carr's art and his books?Who can explain this subject?...
Roger Sansom yazdı:
Well, they knew each other, of course, through the Detection Club (though Carr was a much more clubbable person than Christie). Douglas Greene's book mentions her coming to one of the Carrs' parties - and getting stuck in the lift with J.B.Priestley!
Someone with better knowledge - or a better memory than me will have to find something on their opinions of each other as readers. I do remember a mention somewhere in Christie
of a character's shelf having a 'Dickson Carr' on it Which is a compliment inasmuch as she shows awareness of his work (I think she also places an Agatha Christie on that shelf, or another one elsewhere) - but sounds as though her awareness was a rather general knowledge, if she takes Dickson to be part of
his surname.

For what its worth,My grandmother, Clarice Carr, once told me that she and JDC (my grandfather),among others, were at some gathering with Agatha Christie when she summarized the plot of a new novel she was working on; "Murder on the Orient Express". But
because her solution broke all the conventional rules in their genre of that period, she was advised that an alternate solution should be considered. Well,we all know what happened, she followed her instinct and I guess MOTOE turned out to be one of her most regarded novels.

Just to clear up a minor point: It's standard British usage to refer
to a writer by middle and last name, if both are used by that
writer. That's why we speak of Conan Doyle, for example.

Carr evaluated Christie's works in his essay The Grandest Game in The World and in his reviews in Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine.
I don't believe Christie has ever evaluated Carr at length, but she
mentioned him occasionally as one of the best mystery writers of their time. In Christie's novel The Body in the Library, one of the characters collects autographs of famous mystery writers, one of them being John Dickson Carr. This was probably a tribute
to an appreciated fellow writer.
Enrique F. Bird Picó yazdı:
Friends,
In his EQMM columns, Carr praise Christie no end, acknowledging her as the Master of the genre more than once.
As for Christie on Carr, I remember the blurb appearing in some reprints of Carr that, more or less, very few detective stories puzzled her but Mr.Carrs always did.
